Gerard Russell MBE has been a Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School's Carr Center for Human Rights Policy since January 2010. Before then, he was a British diplomat for fourteen years, including a secondment to the Iraqi Government and another to the United Nations. He headed one of Britain's diplomatic missions (as Consul General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) and two of its largest political teams in Embassies overseas - in Baghdad and Kabul. He speaks fluent Arabic and Dari.
