Mariam Ghorbannejad was born in and grew up in London, to an Iranian father and Scottish mother. She studied Maths at Imperial College London before pursuing a Masters in Economics at University College London. She has worked at the Canadian High Commission in London and most recently for the financial news channel CNBC. Prior to this, she lived in Cairo where she studied Arabic and worked as an editor at an English language newspaper.
