Half of all UK legislation which imposes burdens on businesses originates from the European Union. Yet, given the depth of involvement of the EU in the UK’s regulatory regime, the British public are surprisingly ignorant about the EU, its policies and institutions – and many MPs do not follow events across the Channel.
