Dr Roger Clarke

Trustee

Roger Clarke is an experienced professional in the not-for-profit sector with a lifetime’s interest in the relationship between people and the environment, social justice, and the search for sustainable patterns of living. He is currently also a board member of the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust and has recently completed six years as deputy chair at Practical Action, an international development charity. Prior to this he has served as chair of Friends of the Earth, of the Civil Society Advisory Board at the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, as a board member at Natural England and a Council member at English Nature, amongst other board positions. In his executive career he was CEO at the Youth Hostels Association (YHA) from 2000-2008 and a director at the Countryside Commission from 1984-2000. He started his career as a community worker in the west of Scotland and from 1976-1984 was a director at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations.
