About the APPG on Anti-Corruption & Responsible Tax
The Foreign Policy Centre (FPC) acts as the secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax, chaired by Phil Brickell MP. An APPG is an informal cross-party group composed of Members of Parliament and members of the House of Lords who come together to focus on specific policy areas, foster debate, and drive change.
Established in June 2020 from the merger of two separate backbench parliamentary groups focused on responsible taxation and anti-corruption, this APPG promotes policies designed to ensure fair taxation, combat corruption, and tackle financial crime. Its goal extends beyond merely increasing public revenue; it aims to reinforce public confidence in the integrity and fairness of financial and political systems. Corruption and kleptocracy also entrench inequality and weaken governance in countries around the world – ending it is crucial to improve global development.
As a non-partisan group, it prioritises building consensus across political divides, ensuring that its policy recommendations receive broad and sustained support. The APPG on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax uniquely combines robust campaigning with strong cross-party cooperation to influence political discourse and achieve tangible outcomes.
Since taking on the secretariat in April 2025, the FPC provides administrative, research, and strategic support to the APPG, enabling effective parliamentary campaigns and advocacy. This work is led by Senior Coordinator Stevie Wolfe and supported by Assistant Coordinator Matt Sokhi.
FPC’s secretariat work is supported through grants from the Joffe Trust and the Montpelier Foundation. Aside from being reported in FPC’s annual accounts, funding for the APPG’s activities are also declared to the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards (for donations exceeding £1,500).
