Parliamentary Assistant

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant.

Working For: The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax (the professional secretariat is provided by the Foreign Policy Centre)

Location: Full time, based in Westminster, with the possibility to work from home 1-2 days a week and during recess periods. We offer flexible working hours. Some evening work required.

Salary: £29,000 (IPSA pay scale)

Length of Contract: Fixed term for 12 months, with potential to extend after a year.

Background: Have you ever wondered how that vape shop on your High Street manages to exist without ever attracting any customers? Or why so many ordinary people around the UK continue to get scammed by fraudsters who seem to get away scot-free? Or why so few of the truly bad apples in Westminster ever get properly punished for misbehaviour?

If so, you are not alone: the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax is a unique organisation that works to influence political debate and deliver real world change on all of these issues and many, many more.

We believe that in order to prosper, Britain needs to become a thoroughly undesirable destination for dirty money; needs to restore voters’ trust in its democratic systems; and needs to implement ambitious tax policies to replenish the public purse. We also believe that Britain has a leading role to play in the global fight against corruption and tax evasion.

Our group is fortunate to benefit from the energy of a diverse group of dedicated cross-party parliamentarians.

About the Role: The Parliamentary Assistant will be integral to helping us deliver high quality campaigns. This, in turn, will help our APPG to achieve targeted policy outcomes, ultimately changing the world for the better.

Duties are anticipated to include, although will not be limited to:

  • Providing other administrative and operational support as required.

Events

  • Helping to organise regular events both private (e.g. hearings and parliamentary briefings) and public (panel discussions, receptions, briefings)
  • Events may be held during evenings or, very occasionally, on weekends (eg political party conferences) so there may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.

Networking

  • Represent the APPG in meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from key stakeholders.
  • Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including colleagues, parliamentarians, external partners, event attendees and parliamentary estate staff.

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a small, close-knit team.
